 INTRODUCTION

Samsung phones versus iphone. A telephone is a telecommunications device that permits two or more users to conduct a conversation when they are too far apart to be heard directly. A telephone converts sound, typically and most efficiently the human voice, into electronic signals that are transmitted via cables and other communication channels to another telephone which reproduces the sound to the receiving user. The term is derived from Greek: τῆλε (tēle, far) and φωνή (phōnē, voice), together meaning distant voice. A common short form of the term is phone, which came into use almost immediately after the first patent was issued.

In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell was the first to be granted a United States patent for a device that produced clearly intelligible replication of the human voice as a second device. This instrument was further developed by many others, and became rapidly indispensable in business, government, and in households.

The essential elements of a telephone are a microphone (transmitter) to speak into and an earphone (receiver) which reproduces the voice in a distant location. In addition, most telephones contain a ringer to announce an incoming telephone call, and a dial or keypad to enter a telephone number when initiating a call to another telephone. The receiver and transmitter are usually built into a handset which is held up to the ear and mouth during conversation. The dial may be located either on the handset or on a base unit to which the handset is connected. The transmitter converts the sound waves to electrical signals which are sent through a telephone network to the receiving telephone, which converts the signals into audible sound in the receiver or sometimes a loudspeaker. Telephones are duplex devices, meaning they permit transmission in both directions simultaneously.

The first telephones were directly connected to each other from one customer’s office or residence to another customer’s location. Being impractical beyond just a few customers, these systems were quickly replaced by manually operated centrally located switchboards. These exchanges were soon connected together, eventually forming an automated, worldwide public switched telephone network. For greater mobility, various radio systems were developed for transmission between mobile stations on ships and automobiles in the mid-20th century. Hand-held mobile phones were introduced for personal service starting in 1973. In later decades, their analog cellular system evolved into digital networks with greater capability and lower cost.

Convergence has given most modern cell phones capabilities far beyond simple voice conversation. Most are smartphones, integrating all mobile communication and many computing needs. A traditional landline telephone system, also known as plain old telephone service (POTS), commonly carries both control and audio signals on the same twisted pair (C in diagram) of insulated wires, the telephone line. The control and signaling equipment consists of three components, the ringer, the hookswitch, and a dial. The ringer, or beeper, light or other device (A7), alerts the user to incoming calls. The hook switch signals to the central office that the user has picked up the handset to either answer a call or initiate a call. A dial, if present, is used by the subscriber to transmit a telephone number to the central office when initiating a call. Until the 1960s dials used almost exclusively the rotary technology, which was replaced by dual-tone multi-frequency signaling (DTMF) with push button telephones (A4).

A major expense of wire-line telephone service is the outside wire plant. Telephones transmit both the incoming and outgoing speech signals on a single pair of wires. A twisted pair line rejects electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk better than a single wire or an untwisted pair. The strong outgoing speech signal from the microphone (transmitter) does not overpower the weaker incoming speaker (receiver) signal with sidetone because a hybrid coil (A3) and other components compensate for the imbalance. The junction box (B) arrests lightning (B2) and adjusts the line’s resistance (B1) to maximize the signal power for the line length. Telephones have similar adjustments for inside line lengths (A8). The line voltages are negative compared to earth, to reduce galvanic corrosion. Negative voltage attracts positive metal ions toward the wires.

SAMSUNG PHONE

The Samsung phone is an Android smartphone designed, developed, and marketed by Samsung Electronics. Launched in 2012, it had sold about 70 million units by 2015 with no recalls ever recorded. It is the third smartphone in the Samsung Galaxy S series. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a line of Android-based and Windows-based tablet computers produced by Samsung Electronics. The first model in the series, the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab, was presented to the public on 2 September 2010 at the IFA in Berlin and was available on 5 November 2010. Since then several models have been released, including models with 7.7, 8.9 and 10.1-inch displays. The Wi-Fi versions of the tablet all include a GPS system, and the 3G/4G/5G tablets add cellular capability.

It has additional software features, expanded hardware, and a redesigned physique from its predecessor, the Samsung phone, released the previous year. The “S III” employs an intelligent personal assistant (S Voice), eye-tracking ability, and increased storage. Although a wireless charging option was announced, it never came to fruition. However, there are third party kits which add support for  wireless charging. Depending on the country, the 4.8-inch (120 mm) smartphone comes with different processors and RAM capacity, and 4G LTE support. The device was launched with Android 4.0.4 “Ice Cream Sandwich”, was updated to Android 4.3 “Jelly Bean”, and can be updated to Android 4.4 “KitKat” on variants with 2 GB of RAM. The phone’s successor, the Samsung phones, was announced on 14 March 2013 and was released the following month.

Following an 18-month development phase, Samsung unveiled the S III on 3 May 2012. The device was released in 28 European and Middle Eastern countries on 29 May 2012, before being progressively released in other major markets in June 2012. Prior to release, 9 million pre-orders were placed by more than 100 carriers globally. The S III was released by approximately 300 carriers in nearly 150 countries at the end of July 2012. More than 20 million units of the S III were sold within the first 100 days of release and more than 50 million until April 2013.

Because of overwhelming demand and a manufacturing problem with the blue variant of the phone, there was an extensive shortage of the S III, especially in the United States. Nevertheless, the S III was well-received commercially and critically, with some technology commentators touting it as the “iPhone killer”. In September 2012, TechRadar ranked it as the No. 1 handset in its constantly updated list of the 20 best mobile phones, while Stuff magazine likewise ranked it at No. 1 in its list of 10 best smartphones in May 2012. The handset also won the “European Mobile Phone of 2012–13” award from the European Imaging and Sound Association, as well as T3 magazine’s “Phone of the Year” award for 2012. It played a major role in boosting Samsung’s record operating profit during the second quarter of 2012.  As of November 2012, the S III is part of a high-profile lawsuit between Samsung and Apple. In November 2012, research firm Strategy Analytics announced that the S III had overtaken Apple’s iPhone  to become the world’s best-selling smartphone model in Q3 2012.

In April 2014, following the release of its new flagship, the Galaxy S5, Samsung released a refreshed version called the “Galaxy S3 Neo”, which has a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor clocked either at 1.2 or 1.4 GHz. It has 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage and ships with Android 4.4.4 “KitKat”. Samsung Galaxy S III was succeeded by the Samsung Galaxy S4 in April 2013.

iPHONE

The iPhone is a line of smartphones designed and marketed by Apple Inc. that use Apple’s iOS mobile operating system. The first-generation iPhone was announced by former Apple CEO Steve Jobs on January 9, 2007. Since then Apple has annually released new iPhone models and iOS updates. As of November 1, 2018, more than 2.2 billion iPhones had been sold.

The iPhone has a user interface built around a multi-touch screen. It connects to cellular networks or Wi-Fi, and can make calls, browse the web, take pictures, play music and send and receive emails and text messages. Since the iPhone’s launch further features have been added, including larger screen sizes, shooting video, waterproofing, the ability to install third-party mobile apps through an app store, and many accessibility features. Up to 2017, iPhones used a layout with a single button on the front panel that returns the user to the home screen. Since 2017, more expensive iPhone models have switched to a nearly bezel-less front screen design with app switching activated by gesture recognition.

The iPhone is one of the two largest smartphone platforms in the world alongside Android, forming a large part of the luxury market. The iPhone has generated large profits for Apple, making it one of the world’s most valuable publicly traded companies. The first-generation iPhone was described as “revolutionary” and a “game-changer” for the mobile phone industry and subsequent models have also garnered praise. The iPhone has been credited with popularizing the smartphone and slate form factor, and with creating a large market for smartphone apps, or “app economy”. As of January 2017, Apple’s App Store contained more than 2.2 million applications for the iPhone.

 Comparison Samsung phones versus iphone

Whether you’re a fan of Android or Apple, it’s undeniable that Samsung has some prominent features that make their devices a popular option when it comes to purchasing a new phone.

Just to name a few of their features, Samsung’s models are known for:

  • High Performance
  • Outstanding Camera Quality
  • Stunning Screen Displays

Both brands offer a different, yet excellent, mobile experience that is reliable and widely sought after. Some of the more important factors to compare include:

  • Affordability
  • Phone Design
  • Screen Quality
  • Camera Quality
  • Storage
  • Operating System

In terms of running the Android operating system, Samsung is the biggest smartphone manufacturer. Samsung’s Galaxy devices are almost always launched with the most current version of Android’s software. They even overlay Android with their ‘One UI’ to optimise the use of their devices. One UI is an operating system that offers visual and functional improvements for your user experience. iPhone, however, does benefit from using their very own operating system as they have more control over the production of their updates. When comparing Android to iOS there is a lot to consider, as each has its pros and cons. In short:

  • Android offers over 100 languages in comparison to iOS’s 40.
  • Android is much more open to alternative applications.
  • Google Assistant is preferred to Siri.
  • Apple’s app store security is much stricter.
  • Both interfaces are user friendly.
  • Google cloud storage is preferred to iCloud

Storage storage  can be an underappreciated factor when purchasing a new phone. It’s easy to get caught up in features such as camera quality and its general appearance. Unlike iPhones, when using a Samsung you won’t have the constant issue of deleting apps, moving photos to another storage device or buying more space to extend its storage. Many Samsung devices can still use micro-SD cards to help extend storage space. Although, you will probably find that you won’t need to as there will likely be enough capacity as is. If you were to find that you don’t have enough space and decide that you need more, there are other options with Samsung that can easily meet your needs. You could pair, for example, a Samsung S10 and it’s 512GB with external storage. If the external storage has the capacity of 512 GB too, you would be looking at over 1TB worth of storage, which is pretty impressive, and much more than you’ll find yourself needing.  Apple does offer a Lightning port accessory (sold separately) which you can use to transfer any data from an SD to the device. However, it’s not an ideal solution in terms of expanding the storage for general everyday use.

Samsung phones versus iphone Screen Quality

Apple and Samsung devices have both increased their display resolution. The newest iPhones have a Super Retina XDR OLED display in comparison to Samsung’s newer models which use Dynamic AMOLED.

AMOLED displays are innovative in that they control the individual pixels, and produce an all-round better quality picture. AMOLED also has an overall better power consumption in comparison to iPhone’s OLED display.

Samsung phones versus iphone Camera Quality

Samsung has always been recognised for its attention to detail when the quality of its cameras is considered. Their S10+ was a poignant talking point because of the use of three rear camera lenses, and it doesn’t just stop there! The three cameras incorporated a 16Mp ultra wide-angle lens with a 123-degree field, which is a wider field than the human eye can see. Samsung also uses camera features that involve recognising the objects or scene in focus and tailoring the picture quality. This is used to improve the overall image and can include recognising food, animals, greenery, beaches and sunsets. Apple also offers post-processing effects to enhance photos. They followed suit with Samsung and released their iPhone 11 with dual cameras in late 2019. However, the iPhone 11 cameras were of a lower spec compared to Samsung’s devices as they only captured in 12Mp. If the quality of the device’s camera is the main feature you find yourself looking for, and you want one that utilises the most advanced technology available, you should definitely consider a Samsung.
