WhatsApp now lets you add short video messages to chats, It’s just a chat program for messaging your pals, similar to SMS text messaging, which is already included into almost all mobile phones. WhatsApp’s goal was to create a new platform that could overcome the drawbacks of the antiquated carrier-based messaging technologies like SMS and MMS, which only supported light material. SMS was and still is a technology dinosaur, with character limits of only 160 and no functionality for anything than plain text. Its younger sibling, MMS, still lacks features like read receipts and status indicators but does allow the interchange of little bits of data, which are essentially low-resolution images and sound bites.
There’s been no shortage of instant messaging apps over the past decade, as the rise of advanced smartphone platforms has created the need for more sophisticated ways to communicate than traditional SMS text messages allowed for. In fact, the Apple App Store and Google Play Store are both littered with apps that promised to be the next big thing in mobile communications. Yet, many of those fell by the wayside as they failed to achieve the critical mass of users needed to make them useful. After all, apps designed for communicating with others don’t do you much good unless enough folks are using them. You can now send short video messages in a WhatsApp chat, Meta announced on Thursday.
WhatsApp Video messages
A video message can last for up to 60 seconds long and is protected with end-to-end encryption. “Video messages are a real-time way to respond to chats with whatever you want to say and show in 60 seconds,” Meta said in a post announcing the new feature. “We think these will be a fun way to share moments with all the emotion that comes from video, whether it’s wishing someone a happy birthday, laughing at a joke, or bringing good news.”
WhatsApp now lets you add short video messages to chats, To send a video message on WhatsApp, switch to video mode and then hold to record the video. To go hands-free, simply lock and record the video by swiping up. If you receive a video message in a WhatsApp chat, it’ll automatically play on mute until you tap the display to start the audio. Meta said that the video message feature has already started to roll out and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks, so be patient if you’re not seeing it yet.
The latest upgrade comes just a couple of months after WhatsApp added another feature allowing users to edit messages. Before that, the only way to edit a WhatsApp message was by going through the somewhat laborious process of deleting it before repeating the compose and send process.
How to get WhatsApp on your computer
You may download WhatsApp on your Mac or Windows PC, as we have explained, but it’s vital to remember that this isn’t an independent software. Instead, it works as a WhatsApp companion on your iPhone or Android device. You must connect your computer to WhatsApp using your phone in order to utilize WhatsApp on a Mac or Windows PC. Fortunately, the company updated WhatsApp for Windows significantly last year, enabling the desktop client to connect to the WhatsApp server without the need for a smartphone. Similar features are available in a new version of WhatsApp for Mac that is now in open beta. You’ll still need your smartphone to set up WhatsApp Desktop when using these more recent full-featured versions, but once you have, you can communicate with other WhatsApp users from your Mac or Windows PC, even if your phone’s battery is low or there is no service nearby.
You can login to WhatsApp using any current web browser thanks to the browser-based WhatsApp Web, which is still available. Although it isn’t nearly as feature-rich as the new Windows desktop app, it is a great alternative if you want to use WhatsApp from a PC at work or school where it isn’t practical to install the standalone program.
